Tianjin builds first-class public transport system to welcome Olympics

Public transport employees providing quality service to passengers at a downtown bus station.

(BEIJING, June 22) -- To prepare for the Olympic Games and to improve services for residents in the city, the Tianjin Public Transport Company has launched 78 model bus lines, 20 standardized service bus lines and 10 standardized quality service bus lines, it was announced on June 20.

The public transport company, led by the local government, is encouraging all of its members to be models of quality service. Using the Olympic Games as an opportunity to improve the city, the company will be replacing or upgrading 2513 new buses, building new bus terminals and stops and adjusting bus lines.

The initiative also includes the cleaning of vehicles and strict rules for drivers that prohibit smoking or talking on mobile phone while driving. The company hopes that these measures will reduce complaints by 25 percent.

In the final 50 days before the Olympics, the Tianjin Bus Company will continue its emphasis on service, accelerate the adjustment of transport lines and impose stricter control on exhaust fumes in the hopes of contributing to the rapid development of the city.
